It wasn't a record, but it was fun and a great fundraiser. Nearly 2000 people gathered on Griggs Field on the UMD campus Saturday the 9th to partake in the potential record.
The Duluth Photography Institute has organized a group of local photographers to learn on-location photography and environmental portraits while recording the people, places, and events of the Duluth-Superior Area. If you are a photographer and want to learn more about this type of photography, contact Brian at dpi@duluthphotographyinstitute.com or call 218.393.2468 and apply to be a part of the group! Enjoy!

Nerd Nite Duluth
Photo and text by Nate Lindstrom
Nerd Nite is a monthly-ish gathering of like-minded folks to partake in expanding their wisdom in sometimes obscure subject matter. Jeremy Nilson, Crystal Pelkey, and Adam Brisk are the alpha nerds who have just finished organizing and producing the 21st successful Nerd Nite at the Duluth Playground.
During a production, three presenters will wow a theater audience with PowerPoint presentations on subjects they might be a self-proclaimed expert in. Topics have previously included rock tumbling, number stations, who is the best Dr. Who, and how to survive a zombie uprising in the Twin Ports. Sprinkle in a game to test your nerdly knowledge as well as the always fantastic door prizes, and you have an excellent night of entertainment.

Boxing at Grandmas Sports Garden
Photos and text by H. Brian Rauvola
I had the opportunity once again to photograph a night of boxing, but this time there were a number of amateur bouts on the card. To my surprize, some were a bit younger than I thought. The image you see below caught my eye in the editing, though it is not indicitive of the gutsy performance of this young lad, I just happened to capture a split second where there may have been some, shall we say, trepidation.
I call it, "Is This Really a Good Idea?"
